Updated June 2023: We've added the Dyson Airstrait as our favorite wet-to-straight flat iron and the DryBar Straight Shot Blow-Drying Flat Iron as an affordable alternative. There's a dizzying number of options around, but hopefully our favorite hair straighteners can help narrow down your search. Some flat irons have left us with crispy ends and cramped hands, while others, like the ones listed here, gave us sleek hair. WIRED's Gear team has an array of curl types, needs, and hair-styling tricks, and we've all tried a lot of hair straighteners in our lifetimes. Then, and only then, can I go in with a flat iron. I let it air-dry, then I braid it before bed so that the next day, the curls are looser and easier to work through. I wash all the product out the night before and load my hair with hydrating protectants. Mind you i only flat iron my hair maybe once a month.i have started using Moroccan oil so my hair has gotten much better.Straightening my hair is typically a two-day affair. I have been using a Jilbere de paris ceramic 1'' flat iron for the past two years and it works great, however i tend to have to use more products after word to keep it from frizzing in the humidity/ summer. I read that these types are best for straightening hair with less damage that a traditional ceramic flat iron. I was recently looking through flat irons and came across a new type of flat iron called " tourmaline" ceramic plates. I live in a very humid area so i rarely wear my hair straight. My natural curls are soft and well defined and when I flat iron it it gets smooth and sleek. My PROBLEM is that it tends to frizz up in rainy/humid weather. First i would like to say that i am biracial (black/white) and i have very very curly hair! It is soft but tends to frizz at times when it is humid out.
